I have an aging HP 5055 printer.  I am trying to use non hp ink.  The printer is "blocking" the cartridge.  How do I bypass the blocking mechanism?

Thanks

Hi @Newbronson,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry, I can’t help with bypassing or defeating a printer’s cartridge authentication or ink protection mechanism.

What you can try are the supported options below.

Disable Cartridge Protection (if previously enabled)
Some HP printers allow turning off cartridge protection so compatible cartridges can be used again.

Open HP Smart or the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing the printer IP address into a web browser.

Go to Settings > Supply Settings or Cartridge Protection.

Turn Cartridge Protection off.

Restart the printer.

Note: This option only appears on models that support Cartridge Protection. If it was never enabled, the setting will not appear.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Confirm the cartridge model number supported by the HP 5055 printer.

Remove the cartridge and reinstall it firmly.

Restart the printer.

Update Printer Firmware

Open HP Smart.

Select the printer and check for firmware updates.

Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Use Supported Supplies
Using cartridges designed for the printer model ensures normal operation and prevents supply-recognition errors.

I hope this helps.
