The blue ink is not working properly. When I try to print something that has blue ink the printer ignores adding blue and it comes out with lots of pinks, reds, etc.

I think I need a new blue ink cartridge because I tried all the steps from the virtual chat robot and none of them worked.

Thank you for your help!

HI @KF3331,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is not printing blue ink correctly, and you're seeing issues with colors like pinks and reds replacing blue, it’s likely that the blue ink cartridge might be the problem, but there are other potential causes to consider. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you diagnose and fix the issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge

  • Check the blue ink cartridge for any visible damage or leaks.
  • If the cartridge is old or you suspect it’s defective, replace it with a new one. Ensure you use the correct cartridge model for your printer.

2. Clean Printhead

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door to access the printhead and cartridges.
  • Use the printer’s built-in cleaning utility. This is often accessible through the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Follow the instructions to perform a standard cleaning cycle. You may need to run this several times.
  • If the automatic cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, manually clean the printhead contacts. Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Gently wipe the contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.

3. Check Ink Levels

  • Check the ink levels for the blue cartridge using the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • If the ink level is low or empty, replace the cartridge with a new one.

4. Check Printer Settings

  • Ensure that the print settings in your print dialog are correct. For example, ensure that color printing is selected and that no specific color options or settings are affecting the output.
  • Ensure that your color management settings are correct. Sometimes, incorrect color profiles or settings can cause color issues.

5. Print a Test Page

  • Print a test page or a diagnostic print from the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app. This can help you determine if the issue is with the printhead, cartridges, or settings.
  • If the test page shows the correct colors, but your regular prints don’t, the issue might be with the specific document or print settings.

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for any available firmware updates for your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
