Hello,

I am trying to print borderless on a A5 Matte greeting card. I've done it before, the settings used: A5, Landscape, Other Matte Paper, Borderless, High quality

Did work like a dream for months up until yesterday. Now it's makes like a continuous border at the bottom of the page instead of printing the image. It looks like wipe off please find attached picture. I tried upside down, printing with HP smart, Windows photo, photoshop - nothing

Can anybody help me with this please? I am losing my mind here..

Regards,

Andrei

If it worked for months and no longer works, then the printer might  need maintenance.

Known Solutions for this printer, presented in the order to be considered / completed:

Color or Black Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

Printer settings and paper (type and condition) are mentioned in the solutions document.

Paper must be in "good" condition:

Not curled, not "damp", and not too dry.

Idea:

Try printing something on regular paper (after the recommended diagnostics are completed).

Note that Borderless is likely restricted to particular paper types - for example, Photo / Brochure paper.

The point of the test is simply to find out whether any of the cleaning / maintenance measures have helped the printer.

To save ink, print a test image that does not tax the ink supply - for example, print a simple image and not the most complicated or colorful photo you have in your collection.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think it's an issue with the paper because it's the same paper I've been using for a long period of time. I think it may be an update from HP or something. I can confirm it doesn't print borderless on A4 either, I tried the only two maintenance options but no luck.

Any other suggestions I may try?

Thanks in advance.

You are welcome.

Nothing I say is intended to say you are "doing it wrong".

Paper is "usually" paper - if it is stored properly, it generally continues to work.

Just casting ideas and all that.  Smiling.

=======================================================================

What else?

The doctor not normally a "fix" for borderless printing - but it might catch something odd and fix an underlying issue...

Offline Doctor V5.0.7

Use this version:

  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

  • Download and Save the doctor to your computer
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
  • Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts /  let the process complete
  • Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
  • Check for any difference.

Original Notes – Contributed by ShlomiL

Paraphrased

Connection Issues

  • Print and Scan Doctor Version 5.0.7 creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.

After the Offline Doctor completes…

Verify / Adjust the “Default” printing device (Default Printer)

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

OR

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on printer > Set printer as Default

NOTES – Selecting Default Printer

  1. Do not select the printer marked as “Scan Only / DO NOT DELETE”
  2. Do not select the printer marked as “Fax”

Example Default Printer:  Set “Default” Printer = HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3 (Net)

ReferenceHP Printers - Printer is Offline (Windows) > Step 2: Manually set the default printer

=======================================================================

What else?

If nothing any longer prints borderless, even using those paper and settings that used to do so,

If the printer passes all maintenance and diagnostics,

Uninstall the Full Feature printer software from Programs and Features ,

Restart the computer,

Install a fresh copy of the Full Driver.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver for the printer

Full Driver / Full Feature Software does not require a sign-in to use the software.

  HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

  • Download-and-Save the printer software (Full Feature Software / HP Smart / Easy Start)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using Easy Start, select the Full Driver

Easy Start...

  About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).

Any...

If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the last part of the driver installation)

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart proves to be stubborn).

=======================================================================

What else?

Restart everything, including the Router.

This likely won't make a difference, but it only takes a few minutes and it MIGHT help.

=======================================================================

What else?

If you have not done so, consider updating the Firmware

At this writing, new firmware dated January 2021

HP Smart Tank 510 and HP Smart Tank Plus 550 series Firmware Update

What else?

This document includes how to clean the printer rollers.

I could not tell from your test image - if the image is not "placed on the paper" where expected, this is one area that might need attention.

What else?

Once the full driver is (re)installed,

Test using your photo printing software

Or

Test using HP Smart

Hi,

I tried everything from your list and still no luck. One thing I couldn't do is the firmware install because it wouldn't let me select the printer (tick the box)..

Anything other ideas I can try?

Thanks,

No, sorry.

"Everything" is a lot and yet ... not enough in your case.

Tests fail...

The printer apparently will not print a test image properly on plain paper without the A5 paper requirement.

Plain paper will not print borderless, of course - but you should be able to print a simple image on plain paper without the image sliding off the edge of the paper...

The printer is acting a bit like the paper is not feeding properly.

The  User Guide (starting on Page 88-93) explains how to check and correct jam and feed issues - you've no doubt already seen this when reading the document for help.

If alignment were an issue, it would show up in the Reports.

Should I think of something else, I'll post back.

Hi, after I tried so may things I am about to give up.. I also reinstalled the windows last night and only installed the printer and did some antivirus scan as well nothing seams to work.

Since last time I did few more trials. See below an A5 printed and I can only see the issues on two edges of the page..

20210206_122456.jpg

 also same issue with A4

20210206_121210.jpg

Also same issue with the bottom of the image if I don't print borderless??

20210206_121154.jpg

Ah and to mention I've got 3 HP printers now in the house and 3 laptops + android and apple phone and nothing works..

Also: hp send me some cartages for my envy photo 7134 and no luck. Also they asked me to try some HP paper I will get it tomorrow but I don't think it will solve anything..

Something went very wrong maybe with the last hp update or something.. can someone send me an old driver I can try to install for windows 10 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

@AndreiGra

OK - I see what you mean - there is a bit of "fuzziness" along the edges.

And - Assuming that the cause is an update,  I cannot imagine what is going to fix it.

The printer software has not been updated since June 2020.

The printer Firmware released an update in January 2021 - but does not mention anything more than it is a security update.

Can you print borderless on different paper?

For example, does a print on 4x6 " paper result in the same edge-fuzziness?

I don't like it and I cannot explain it.

Except for the fact that this showed up right on the heels of an update, I'd wonder if this is hardware related.

I don't know.

============================================================================

@Bob_Headrick

Thoughts? What is going on with this printer?

Suddenly, just along the edges, the "borderless" print is showing "edge" fuzziness.  Print goes to the edge of the paper but looks slightly less dense (gray-ish and not solid black).

@AndreiGra has had ink sent from HP (see previous posts) and has apparently tested different paper, different paper sizes, and different software.  Customer says the change showed up right after some kind of update.
