Brand new 952XL black cartridge considered outdated

I have a brand new genuine HP 952XL black ink cartridge that my printer (OfficeJet Pro 7740 wide format all-in-one printer) is refusing to use. I'm getting a msg that it is an older generation and I will need to use it in an older printer or contact HP cust. support for help. The virtual assistant is no help and I can't find a phone number to actually call someone.

Edit - after a bit of back and forth, I was eventually sent a new replacement cartridge free of charge

If this is a genuine HP ink cartridge, I would need some information related to the ink cartridges and the printer which cannot be shared on a public post for security reasons.
