HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I replaced an empty 952XL K in my HP 7740 with a brand new HP 952XL and the printer says it is not compatible with my printer and this cartridge is outdated but may work in older models. Bad enough that I have to use expensive official HP ink but now I have to use different catritdges at random. Even your Virtual Assistant says that 952XL is acceptable. Can't find a number to speak to a human.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Ensure that the cartridge is genuine HP and not a counterfeit. Verify the security labels on the cartridge packaging to confirm authenticity.

Check for Protective Tape:

  • Make sure any protective plastic tape or tab on the cartridge's copper contacts or nozzles has been removed.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridge and carefully reinstall it. Ensure it clicks into place and is securely positioned.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your HP 7740.

Printer Reset:

  • Perform a reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it, waiting about a minute, and then plugging it back in. Turn it back on and test again.

Check Compatibility:

  • Although the HP 952XL cartridge is typically compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, ensure that the cartridge was purchased from a reliable source and matches the printer requirements.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Using a lint-free cloth or swab lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
