HP ENVY Inspire will print color test page beautifully but will only print copies in black and white. Just set it up recently. What did I do wrong? My computer is a Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1. not sure I completed the set up completely. Please help.

Hi @VMA3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the setup for your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e may not be fully complete, or the settings for copying are configured to black and white. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Copy Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to the Copy menu.
  • Ensure that the color option is selected, not black and white. Sometimes, default copy settings are set to monochrome (black and white), so you may need to change that.

Check Printer Driver on Your Mac:

Ensure that the correct printer driver is installed and up-to-date for Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1.

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and check if the correct driver is selected.
  • If you see a generic driver (AirPrint, for example), download the specific driver from the HP website and install it.

Check Print Settings on Mac:

When printing, double-check that the color option is enabled:

  • Open the print dialog from an application (e.g., when printing a document).
  • Go to Printer Settings.
  • Look for the option related to color printing and ensure that Color is selected instead of Black & White.

Update Firmware and Software:

  • Ensure that the firmware on the printer is up-to-date.
  • On your Mac, open the HP Smart app and check for any available updates for your printer.

Try Making a Copy Directly on the Printer:

  • Make a copy of a color document directly using the printer's control panel. If it still prints in black and white, it suggests an issue with the copy settings on the printer.

Reset Printer Settings (If Necessary):

If nothing works, you can reset the printer's settings to factory defaults and set it up again. This can sometimes resolve configuration issues:

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
