The operating system is Ventura 13.7.6.

Replaced empty cartridge with brand new HP 902 XL black cartridge. The paper goes through as if it might print, but no ink comes through. All the other colors are working just fine. I have followed through with all the HP, on-line suggestions. They have recommended you'all.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue where the black ink isn't printing even after replacing the cartridge. Since the other colors are working, it might be specific to the black ink cartridge or the printer's ink delivery system for that color. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot further:

 

Check for Cartridge Protective Tape

Remove the black ink cartridge and check if there’s any tape or plastic covering the nozzle area. If you see any, carefully remove it and reinstall the cartridge.

 

Perform a Print Head Cleaning

Since the printer is not printing the black ink, the print head for the black ink might be clogged. You can try cleaning the print head.

Go to the printer’s settings on your Mac and run a Print Head Cleaning or Cartridge Cleaning from the maintenance menu. You may have this option in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and then click on Options & Supplies for your printer. Follow the instructions to perform a cleaning cycle.

 

Align the Print Heads

Misalignment can sometimes cause issues with one of the ink colors.

In the same printer settings or maintenance menu, you should also see an option for Print Head Alignment. This can help with any issues related to the ink not being distributed properly.

 

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
