hello
I have a brand new LaserJet Pro M283fdw and printer says incompatible supplies.
I have tried trunign off printer and removign cartridges, folowed by holding power button down for 15 seconds, waiting 30 seconds, turning on and replacing cartridges.
There is no protective film or pull tabs on the four catidges (black and colour).
Does anyone know what to look for or have any advice?
thanks in advance

Hi @adrian1007,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your brand-new HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is displaying an "incompatible supplies" message, it’s essential to troubleshoot the issue to ensure the printer functions correctly. Here’s a detailed guide to help resolve the problem:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Reinstall Cartridges: Even though you've already tried this, make sure that each cartridge is correctly installed. Remove each cartridge one by one, then reinstall them, ensuring they click into place firmly.
- Verify Alignment: Check that each cartridge is correctly aligned and properly seated in its slot.
2. Inspect Cartridges for Damage
- Check for Damage: Inspect each cartridge for any visible damage or defects. Ensure there are no cracks or leaks.
- Verify Cartridges: Confirm that you are using genuine HP cartridges. Sometimes third-party or refilled cartridges can cause compatibility issues.
3. Ensure Proper Packaging Removal
- Remove Packaging: Double-check that all protective packaging and tapes have been completely removed from the cartridges and the printer.
4. Perform a Power Cycle
- Power Cycle: You’ve mentioned doing this, but make sure to follow these steps precisely:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
- Update Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues. Check HP’s support website for any available firmware updates for your model and follow the instructions to update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
