Hi @JoefromMult2,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing a toner issue with your HP LaserJet Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To assist better:
- Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges?
- Was there any recent update on the printer prior to the issue?
While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
Update the printer firmware
- Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
- Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
If the issue persists, then please follow the steps mentioned in this document: HP LaserJet Printers - 'Install Black Cartridge' Displays (Product may vary but the steps are the same)
Note: You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I said right in the subject line " Brand new black print cartridge 202x from HP." Yet your answer is mostly asking me if my cartridges are official HP. That puzzles me.
It also puzzles me that installing brand new HP cartridges purchased directly from HP could break my printer. The printer worked before I installed the new cartridges, and it did not work after. I recognize this could be a coincidence. But it is suspect.
Regardless, I tried what you said. I worked on the printer for hours and hour. Nothing worked. I am recycling the printer buying a new one. I need to move on.
Thanks anyway.
