I bought a brand-new HP Officejet pro 9730e. When attempting to set up the printer I get an error message stating that there is an error communicating with the cyan cartridge. I have tried all the steps recommended by HP (cleaning cartridge, performing hard reset, etc.) and it still does not work. I bought a replacement cyan cartridge, and it seemed to communicate properly but says it needs a setup cartridge to complete setup. Those cartridges cannot be purchased.

How can I acquire another setup cartridge or how do I bypass the setup cartridge screen?

Hi @Shawn4cls, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Check the cartridge labels and make sure the cartridges are seated properly in the carriage.

2. Turn on the printer, and then open the door or lid to the cartridge access area.

3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

4. Check if the cartridges have 'SETUP' on the label. If the installed cartridges are NOT SETUP cartridges:

New printer: Check the printer box for a white box of SETUP cartridges. SETUP cartridges cannot be purchased from retailers and are available only in the box with a new printer or some replacement printhead kits.

If SETUP cartridges are installed, or you installed SETUP cartridges and got the error, continue to the next step.

5. Push the ink cartridge to remove it, and then push it into its slot until it snaps into place.

6. Repeat these steps to remove and reinsert the other cartridges.

7. Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area.
