HP DeskJet 1112 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My brand new HP 1112 printer prints blank pages. The HP smart shows the cartridges have ink in them.

I am hesitant to spend a lot of money for new ink cartridges and then find out this does not fix the problem.

I did not use this printer for a long time. Now my old printer broke so I am trying to revive this one. I'm sure it

is out of warranty but it has never printed a single page.

@LarryT6, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since your HP DeskJet 1112 is printing blank pages despite showing ink levels in HP Smart, and it hasn’t been used in a while, here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the issue without immediately buying new cartridges:

Check the Protective Tape

If the printer is brand new or hasn’t been used since purchase:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the cartridges and ensure the protective plastic tape covering the ink nozzles has been removed. This is a common issue with new or long-unused printers.

Run a Printhead Cleaning

Ink can dry up in the nozzles over time:

  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant.
  • Go to Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle once or twice and try printing a test page.

Print a Test Page from the Printer Itself

This helps isolate software issues:

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Load plain paper.
  • Press and hold the Power button, then press the Cancel button (X) once.
  • Release the Power button. A test page should print.

Check Cartridge Venting

Sometimes the vent on the cartridge gets clogged:

  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Look at the top of the cartridge where the label is — there should be a small vent.
  • If clogged, gently clean it with a soft cloth.

Try a Different Document or App

Sometimes the issue is with the file or app:

  • Try printing a simple Word document or a test page from Notepad.
