I have an HP office jet pro 8710 and my issue is that it keeps reading an error of printhead problems. It says the printhead appears to be missing not detected or incorrectly installed. I brought a new one. Put it in with the cartridges. The cartridges is good, but the printhead it keeps reading that issue, what can I do?

Hi @Keena39,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is still displaying an error related to the printhead even after replacing it, try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Printhead Installation

  1. Turn off the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered off before handling any components.
  2. Remove the Printhead and Cartridges:
    • Open the printer’s access door to reach the printhead area.
    • Carefully remove the printhead and the ink cartridges.
  3. Inspect the Printhead and Cartridges:
    • Check for any protective tape or plastic that might still be on the printhead or cartridges.
    • Look for any visible damage or obstructions.
  4. Reinstall the Printhead:
    • Reinsert the printhead firmly into its slot.
    • Install the ink cartridges back into their respective slots.

2. Clean the Printhead Contacts

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Ensure the printer is off and unplugged.
  2. Remove the Printhead:
    • Follow the steps to remove the printhead.
  3. Clean the Contacts:
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printhead connects.
    • Let everything dry completely before reassembling.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Connect the Printer to the Network:
    • Ensure the printer is connected to your network or computer.
  2. Check for Updates:
    • Open the HP Smart app or go to the HP Support website to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait: Leave it unplugged for about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug In and Turn On:
    • Plug the printer back into the power source.
    • Turn it on and check if the error persists.

5. Verfy Printhead Compatibility

  1. Check the Printhead Model:
    • Ensure that the new printhead is the correct model for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  2. Use Genuine HP Printheads:
    • Verify that you are using genuine HP printheads and cartridges, as third-party or refilled printheads may cause compatibility issues.

6. Perform a Printer Self-Test

  1. Access the Printer’s Self-Test Menu:
    • Consult your printer’s user manual for instructions on performing a self-test or diagnostic page.
  2. Run the Test:
    • Follow the instructions to see if the printer can perform a test print and if it reports any issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
