My setup cartridges have been gone a while and the printer which was working fine with genuine cartridges installed has had a full reset and now won't work without the original setup cartridges put back in to the printer, this is like buying a car with spark plugs that last a thousand miles that need putting back in if you change the battery four years later, bonkers.

I'd like to help!
I understand you are receiving a "use setup cartridges" error.
We would have to perform an OOBE reset on the printer to bypass the error
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- In order to access your private messages, click the support private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Thanks for this and problem solved.
Should opening the cartridge door and holding down the wifi button for 3 seconds and closing the door again causing a test page to print and then everything works fine be a secret though?

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
Hence , the instructions are sent out in a private message.
