I AM UNABLE TO OPEN MY OFFICE JET 5255 TO GET TO THE INK CARTRIDGE TO CHANGE IT. IT SAYS THAT  THE COVER OR DOOR NEEDS TO BE CLOSED FOR ME TO CONTINUE.  HOWEVER THE COVER OR DOOR IS NOT OPEN.

Hi @JODZA,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing issues with your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-In-One Printer wherein you get an error message "door open".

I suggest that you follow the steps listed below:
1. Open, and then close the cartridge door of the product. Make sure that the door rests securely against the body of the product.
2. Inspect the door and the area around it to make sure that no obstructions prevent the door from closing completely.

If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you follow the steps listed below to reset the printer:
1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
2. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the product.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the product.
5. Wait 30 seconds.
6. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the product.
8. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
9. Reconnect the USB cable to the product.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I thank you very much for sending a potential solution to my problem. However, after following your instructions, I still could not get to my ink cartridges. Thus I have had to purchase a new HP printer.
