My new, just bought CF 400X cartridge has a date (and probably a serial number) printed on the front side of the product packaging.

My question: Is this the manufacturing or the "best before" date?

Remark: The AI-support told me that it is either or .....

Thank you for a real answer!

Hi @JuppvanOche,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The date printed on the packaging of your CF 400X cartridge is most likely the manufacturing date, not a "best before" date. HP toner cartridges do not have an official "expiration date" or "best before" date, as toner does not expire like consumable goods. Instead, the manufacturing date helps identify when the product was produced for inventory and quality control purposes.

If you're concerned about the cartridge's usability or shelf life:

  • Storage Tips: Store the cartridge in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Proper storage ensures the toner remains effective for years.

  • Warranty Check: HP toner cartridges typically have a warranty based on the manufacturing date. You can verify the warranty status of the cartridge on HP's website by using the serial number or packaging information.
