Hi @Whitewine21,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

While the HP Deskjet 6940 printer is designed to work with HP 344 ink cartridges, and the HP 343 tricolor ink cartridge is compatible with some HP printers, there could be a few reasons why you're experiencing printing issues after replacing the cartridge. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  1. Check Compatibility: Make sure that the HP 343 tricolor ink cartridge is indeed compatible with the HP Deskjet 6940 printer. You can usually find this information on the printer's manual or on the HP website.

  2. Ensure Proper Installation: Double-check that the ink cartridge is properly installed. Remove and reinsert it to make sure it is securely in place. Make sure you've removed any protective tapes or covers from the cartridge.

  3. Printer Status and Error Messages: Check the printer status and any error messages displayed on the printer or your computer. This can provide clues about what might be causing the issue.

  4. Printer Software Updates: Ensure that your printer's software and drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

  5. Clean Print Heads: Inkjet printers can sometimes experience issues with clogged print heads. Check your printer manual for instructions on how to clean the print heads. Some printers have a built-in cleaning utility that can be accessed through the printer software on your computer.

  6. Alignment and Calibration: Perform a print head alignment and calibration if your printer has these features. This ensures that the ink is applied correctly on the paper.

  7. Use Genuine HP Cartridges: While third-party cartridges may be cheaper, using genuine HP cartridges is recommended to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
