My old hp OfficeJet Pro 8600 died and I bought a new version (the 9730e). However, I recently bought a full set of hp951 ink cartridges for the older printer.
The cartridges look identical so I am wondering if I can use the 951 cartridges in place of the 936 ones?

Hi @RobAndPam,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I see what you mean, let’s clear this up. The HP 951 cartridges from your old OfficeJet Pro 8600 are not compatible with the new OfficeJet Pro 9730e.
Cartridge Compatibility:
The OfficeJet Pro 8600 uses HP 950/951 cartridges.
The OfficeJet Pro 9730e is designed to use HP 934/935 or 962/963 series (depending on region).
Even if they look similar, each printer has firmware that only accepts specific cartridges.
Why They Won’t Work:
HP printers check the chip on the cartridge, the 951 chip won’t be recognized by the 9730e.
What You Can Do:
Save the 951 cartridges in case you sell, recycle, or repair the old printer.
For the 9730e, you’ll need to purchase the correct cartridges (or sign up for HP Instant Ink, if available).
I hope this helps.
