I cancelled my Instant Ink subscription and attempted to remove the printer through the dashboard.   The printer is still being controlled by Instant Ink and it's telling me a cartridge is empty when I know it's not.  I've rebooted everything and reset to factory defaults.  Still can't print.

Hi @wlfields,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Remove Instant Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure any Instant Ink cartridges are removed from the printer. Replace them with standard cartridges purchased independently, as Instant Ink cartridges are designed to work only under the subscription.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Check that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP Support page and download any updates specific to your OfficeJet Pro 8710 model.

Reset Printer Configuration:

  • Perform a full reset to factory defaults. Although you mentioned already doing this, it often requires reconfiguring printer settings and ensuring no Instant Ink settings are stored post-reset.

Verify Printer Status:

  • Access your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer’s IP address into a web browser. Check for any settings related to Instant Ink and disable them if they persist.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer software on your PC to clear any existing drivers or settings related to Instant Ink that might be lingering.

Access HP Smart App:

  • Use the HP Smart App to manage printer settings and ensure the printer is set up correctly without any subscription restrictions. This app can help locate and adjust any remaining Instant Ink controls.

Register Printer as Standard:

  • To fully detach from Instant Ink, make sure the printer is registered as a standard device through HP Connected or similar platforms, without linking it back to any subscription services.

I hope this helps.
