Hi @cclisamona,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you may have encountered a problem with the toner cartridge installation in your HP Neverstop Laser 1001nw printer. Here are some steps you can follow to safely remove the toner cartridge and clean up any excess toner.
Turn off and Unplug the Printer
- For safety, turn off your printer and unplug it from the power outlet before proceeding with any work.
Open the Toner Compartment
- Open the front door or the compartment where the toner cartridge is housed. Make sure the printer is completely powered off.
Check for Obstructions
- If the toner cartridge is stuck, gently try to move it side to side. Look for any visible obstructions or misalignment inside the compartment that might be preventing the cartridge from sliding out.
Handle the Toner Carefully
- If toner has spilled around the cartridge, try to avoid getting it on your hands or clothing. Use a clean, dry cloth or a damp (but not wet) cloth to carefully wipe away any spilled toner. A vacuum with a toner-safe attachment is also a good way to clean up spills.
Try Releasing the Cartridge
- If the cartridge is stuck, check if there is a latch or locking mechanism that may need to be released. Gently press or pull on the cartridge while making sure you are not forcing it out. It might need to be aligned properly to come out smoothly.
Remove the Cartridge
- Once the cartridge is free, carefully lift it out of the printer. If you’re still having trouble, try gently wiggling it while pulling it out. Be cautious not to damage the printer or the cartridge.
Inspect the New Cartridge
- If the new cartridge is damaged or misaligned, this could be the reason it was difficult to install. Make sure the toner is securely packed in the new cartridge and that it is not leaking from any seals.

Reinstall the Toner Cartridge
- After cleaning up any spilled toner and inspecting the cartridge, carefully reinstall the toner cartridge, ensuring it clicks securely into place. You should feel or hear a small click when it’s properly seated.
Test the Printer
- Once the cartridge is installed correctly, close the printer compartment, plug the printer back in, and turn it on. Perform a test print to ensure everything is functioning as expected.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
