I am setting the printer up for the first time and used the setup cartridges and the alignment page did not print neither was I able to print anything else. I am having an error stating that the printer need original cartridges and not setup black cartridge. Do I need to buy an original cartridge to finish the setup?

The HP DeskJet 2855e All-in-One printer uses HP 67 or HP 67XL ink cartridges. Here’s a guide to resolving the issue with your setup cartridges and understanding the cartridge requirements:

**1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Compatible Cartridges:
    • The HP DeskJet 2855e requires HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges for normal operation. HP 67 cartridges are standard yield, and HP 67XL cartridges are high yield.

**2. Understanding Setup Cartridges

  • Setup Cartridges:
    • Setup cartridges are typically used only for the initial setup of the printer and are often included with the printer. They are designed to help with the initial alignment and calibration of the printer but are not intended for regular printing tasks.

**3. Resolve Printer Error

  • Error Message:
    • If the printer is giving an error that it needs original cartridges, it could be due to the setup cartridges not being recognized or a problem with the alignment process.

**4. Steps to Resolve the Issue

a. Check Cartridge Installation

Ensure Proper Installation:

  • Open the cartridge access door and check that the setup cartridges are installed correctly. They should click into place securely.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Remove and reinstall the setup cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.

b. Perform Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer using the power button. If it doesn’t turn off, unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds and then turn the printer back on or plug it back in.

c. Install Original Cartridges

  • If the setup cartridges are causing issues, try installing a set of original HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges. These are designed for regular use and may resolve the issue with the alignment page and error messages.
  • Make sure to follow the instructions provided with the new cartridges for proper installation.

d. Perform Printer Setup

  • After installing the original cartridges, follow the printer’s setup instructions to complete the alignment and calibration process.
  • The printer should now be able to print the alignment page and perform necessary setup tasks.

e. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Sometimes updating the printer’s firmware can resolve setup and cartridge recognition issues. Visit the HP Support website and check for any available updates for your DeskJet 2855e.
