I purchased a used HP Officejet Pro 6830 that was working great until the ink was low and now I am unable to print after replacing the ink. The message on the printer says, "Cannon print. Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status." I did not have an HP Instant Ink account, however, the prior owner might have. I have restored all of the printer settings and disconnected the HP network settings, but I am still unable to print even a test page.

Hi @Liberty999 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 6830, follow these steps:

Cancel HP Instant Ink Services:

  • Ask the previous account holder to Contact HP Support: Reach out to HP Support to inform them that the printer was purchased used and that you need to cancel any existing Instant Ink services associated with the printer's previous owner. They can help remove the printer from the previous owner's account and reset the status.

Remove the Printer from HP Connected (if applicable):

  • If the printer is still linked to an old HP Connected account, it might cause issues. Visit the HP Smart website and sign in or create an account if necessary. Look for options to manage or remove devices.

Check and Reset Printer Settings:

  • Factory Reset: Ensure you’ve performed a complete factory reset on the printer. Go to the printer’s settings menu and find the option to restore factory defaults. This will clear any residual settings from the previous owner.
  • Reconfigure Network Settings: Reconnect the printer to your network. Make sure it's properly connected to your WiFi.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check for any firmware updates for the HP Officejet Pro 6830. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve connection issues.

Check Ink Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove them and reinsert them to ensure they are seated correctly.

Print a Diagnostic Page:

  • Try printing a diagnostic page or a network configuration page from the printer’s menu to ensure the printer is properly connected to your network.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Download and reinstall the latest HP printer software from the HP Support website. This may help reset the printer’s connection and resolve issues.

I hope this helps.
