Hi @penny_murray,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 2720e is not printing in black, try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is not empty. You can check the ink levels using the HP Smart app or through the printer's control panel.

Replace the Ink Cartridge: If the black ink is low or empty, replace the cartridge with a new one.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Go to the printer's settings via the control panel.
  • Select Tools or Maintenance.
  • Choose the Clean Printhead option to clear any blockages.

Check for Blocked Nozzles: If the printhead is clogged, try printing a test page or running the nozzle check to confirm the issue. Clean the printhead using the recommended method if needed.

Reinstall Ink Cartridges: Remove and reinstall the black ink cartridge. Ensure it’s properly seated in the printer.

Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in, power it on, and try printing again.

Check Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers may cause printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
