We haven't used our printer in over a year. Prior to this, I was using instant ink. I recently hooked up our printer and installed brand-new cartridges from the store. My printer will only print in greyscale. I have checked every setting possible and restored everything to default when applicable. Nowhere can I find "blank ink only" or "print in greyscale" selected as options. Images that I scan with the scanner are also printing in greyscale. I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall drivers, and restarted the computer and printer. I have check the color cartridges and re-installed them. I have turned everything off and back on. I have ran alignment and print head cleaning. I don't know what else to do? Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi @pbandjme13,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried a thorough set of troubleshooting steps for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer, but there are still a few potential causes and solutions to explore.
Here are some additional steps you can try.
Check Printer Settings (PC or Mac)
Make sure that the printer driver is not set to grayscale or black-and-white mode on your computer:
- Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 and select Printing Preferences.
- Look under the Paper/Quality tab to see if it is set to print in black and white. If so, change it to Color.
- Also, check the Advanced tab for any grayscale settings.
- Mac:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click Options & Supplies.
- Ensure that the Color option is selected in the printing preferences.
Disable Grayscale in Printer's Web Interface
- Access your printer's embedded web server (EWS) by typing the printer's IP address into a web browser.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Preferences and ensure that no grayscale or black ink-only option is enabled.
Instant Ink Program Check
Since you previously used HP's Instant Ink program, it's possible that your printer is still recognizing ink settings tied to Instant Ink cartridges:
- Go to HP Smart or log into your HP Instant Ink account and check if your printer is still enrolled.
- If the printer is showing as enrolled but you're using store-bought cartridges, unenroll it to ensure it switches back to using regular cartridges.
Reset Printer's Ink System
Performing a factory reset might help resolve issues related to cartridge detection:
- Turn the printer off.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer back on and try printing again.
Reinstall the Full Feature Software and Drivers
Instead of the basic drivers, reinstall the HP full feature driver to ensure you have full access to color printing features:
- Visit the HP Support site to download the latest full-featured driver for your specific printer model.
- Uninstall the current driver, restart the computer, and then install the new driver.
Run Printer Diagnostics Tools
- Use HP’s Print and Scan Doctor (for Windows) or HP Utility (for Mac) to diagnose any issues related to printing color. These tools can sometimes detect problems that the regular driver software does not.
Test with Another Device
Try printing from a different computer, tablet, or mobile device to see if the issue is isolated to one device.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello,
Thank you for your detailed reply. I followed each possible troubleshooting tip, and nothing has worked. I believe this is a printer issue, as I did try printing from my phone and the same issue occurred. Is there anything else I could try? We really need our printer for the upcoming school year!
Thanks,
Jamie
