@LindaGrace, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP ENVY 5530 is showing a carriage jam and rejecting genuine HP cartridges after shipping. Let’s walk through some steps to resolve this.
Check for Carriage Obstructions
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Gently move the carriage left and right. If it’s stuck, check for:
- Packing materials or tape left inside.
- Paper debris or foreign objects.
- Close the door and plug the printer back in.
Clean Cartridge Contacts
Sometimes, dirty contacts can cause cartridge recognition issues.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Let them dry for 10 minutes, then reinstall.
Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
This can clear temporary errors caused by shipping or power fluctuations.
Additional Tips
- Make sure your cartridges are genuine HP and not expired. HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site
- Update your printer firmware via HP Smart or from the printer’s control panel.

I have been reading the HP help for a couple of weeks now. The reply I received was straight out of online text and mentions everything I've beed trying for those two weeks. NOT HELPFUL.
There is something mechanical stopping the carriage, not debris.
Is there a way to actually have my comments heard and addressed in the HP help universe?
