Hi @Blair1231,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is showing a cartridge counterfeit error even though the cartridges were purchased directly from HP. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the cartridges are seated correctly
Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
Reinstall each cartridge firmly until it clicks into place, then close the door completely.

Perform a power reset
Turn the printer on and wait until it is idle.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is on, wait 60 seconds, then reconnect and power it back on.

Clean the cartridge contacts
Remove the cartridges again and inspect the copper-colored contacts.
Using a dry, lint-free cloth, gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges and inside the carriage.

Check for mixed cartridge sets
Make sure all installed cartridges are the same series and region and are not mixed with older cartridges.
Using one incompatible or previously used cartridge can trigger a counterfeit warning for the entire set.

Allow cartridge validation to complete
Leave the printer powered on and connected (USB or Wi-Fi) for about 10 minutes.
The printer may need time to validate newly installed cartridges.

Remove and reinstall cartridges one at a time
Install one cartridge, close the access door, and wait for the printer to recognize it.
Repeat this process for each remaining cartridge to identify if one cartridge triggers the error.

Check for firmware-related recognition issues
Restart the printer again after all cartridges are installed.
Firmware glitches can cause false counterfeit messages even with genuine cartridges.

I hope this helps.
