Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I got a message that one or more cartridges were out of ink.  I replaced them all.  Now I get a message saying "problem with the supply system" and it won't print.  It was working just fine.

Hi @dneff1124,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you encounter a "Problem with the supply system" message after replacing ink cartridges, it often indicates an issue with the printer’s ink system or cartridge recognition. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the Printer: Access the cartridge area (usually by opening the front panel or access door).
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove each cartridge and reinstall them, ensuring they are properly seated and locked into place.

Inspect Cartridge Contacts:

  • Check for Tape or Protective Covers: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covers on the cartridges have been removed.
  • Clean Contacts: Gently clean the metal contacts on the cartridges and inside the cartridge slots with a dry, lint-free cloth.

2. Reset the Printer

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn Off and Unplug: Power off the printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait and Reconnect: Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Reset to Factory Settings:

  • Perform a Reset: If your printer’s menu offers a factory reset option, perform a reset. This can clear any errors related to the supply system.

3. Update Firmware and Drivers

Update Firmware:

  • Check for Updates: Visit the HP Support website and see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.

Update Drivers:

  • Install Latest Drivers: Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website to ensure compatibility with your cartridges.

4. Check for Ink Cartridge Compatibility

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure Correct Cartridges: Make sure the cartridges you are using are the correct model for your printer. Double-check compatibility with your printer model.

5. Inspect Printer for Obstructions

Check for Blockages:

  • Inspect for Obstructions: Look inside the printer for any paper or debris that might be obstructing the cartridge area.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
