I know how frustrating it is when your printer suddenly stops detecting cartridges, especially after a year of reliable use. Let’s walk through the steps to fix this issue and get your DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 4929 printing again.
Steps to Fix Cartridge Detection Issues
Step 1: Power Reset the Printer
- Turn on the printer.
- With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn the printer on again.
Step 2: Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Remove both cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Let everything dry for 5 minutes before reinserting.
Step 3: Check for Firmware Updates
- Go to HP’s support page for your printer:

Step 4: Use Genuine HP Cartridges
