I keep getting a cartridge error code after replacing the color(HP 951) cartridges with brand new cartridges. I’ve tried multiple times reseating them, cleaning the contacts and doing hard resets of the device. Nothing works. Any suggestions?

HP 951 Cartridge Error After Replacement
 

For printers that use HP 951 cartridges, HP recommends these next steps when reseating, cleaning contacts, and resetting have already failed:


Update the printer firmware
 

  • HP recommends checking for and installing the latest firmware, as updates can fix printer issues.
    Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support.
     
  • Do not turn off the printer during the update.
     
  • You can update from the printer control panel, the HP app, or HP’s driver/downloads page.

Check whether the printhead is replaceable and reseat it
 

  • For printers using HP 950/951 cartridges, HP says to look for a latch on the carriage.
     
  • If there is a latch, with the printer on, disconnect the power cord, lift the latch, slightly lift and reseat the printhead, wiggle it left/right, then lock the latch and reconnect power.
     
  • If needed, repeat reseating the printhead up to three times.

Replace the printhead if needed
