Recently replaced ink cartridges with refilled (so were prior). All took except Cyan. Won't accept as "cartridge failure" - oddly, shows as full and then say failure when try to print. Also, won't even accept the prior cartridge that had worked before with some ink left - rejects that too with failure message. With Cyan failure, won't even let print in black & white. The printer is completely disabled. Please advise.

@JKPS, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems like your printer is experiencing issues with recognizing the Cyan ink cartridge, and this is causing your printer to be disabled. Here are some possible solutions and considerations:

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. HP devices sometimes require firmware updates to improve functionality, and updates might help resolve issues with third-party or refilled cartridges.

Use Original HP Cartridges: HP printers are designed to work with genuine HP cartridges. Using original HP cartridges ensures compatibility and might resolve issues of cartridge recognition.

Return to Original Cartridge Settings: If reusing a refilled cartridge is not functioning, consider putting a genuine HP cartridge as it may help reset the error state. Sometimes the printer’s built-in security features may not accept refilled or third-party cartridges.

Cartridge Contact Cleaning: Sometimes, outside dirt or residue on cartridge contacts can cause failures. Clean the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth to ensure a proper connection.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the Cyan cartridge, power cycle the printer (turn it off, unplug it for a few seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on), and then reinstall the cartridge.

Printer Reset: Performing a full system reset can occasionally resolve cartridge issues. Unplug the printer for a minute or two from its power source, then reconnect it and power it on.

Avoid Firmware Updates Designed to Block Refilled Cartridges: Be aware that some firmware updates are designed to prevent the use of refilled or remanufactured cartridges to ensure printer reliability and quality print output.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Finally found the time to get back to the printer issue.  As recommended, removed carriage, cleaned it. Bought new OEM HP Magenta cartridge, reset the printer even by unplugging overnight. But getting the same error:  Magenta Cartridge is damaged, replace with new. Firmware shouldn't be issue - it is even OK with refilled Cyan and Yellow. Looks like the printer connector is the problem? Worth a repair or cheaper to get new??

Forgot to mention something strange: At times, when I reinstall the Magenta cartridge, the HP Printer Assistant will show up with the Magenta ink level full! Yet, when I try to print something (even in black and white -B&W), there is a failure, and the ink level shows [x} asking me to order new cartridge.  Is there a way to bypass color all together as default, and just use B&W? I am retired, and probably print perhaps 10 pages a months; no more with B&W just as good!

Hi, We have had this printer HP Officejet Pro 8625 for a while, and have been using generic ink cartridges.
Last time I replaced the color cartridges, it accepted the Cyan and Yellow, and rejected the Magenta as "damaged". Since then, I have tried other Magenta cartridges including HP original. But they were all rejected as damaged. Unfortunately, without a Magenta, the printer does not work at all - even in B&W despite many resets including factory.
1. Is it even worth trying to repair this?
2. If so, what would be an estimate? I recall that when Costco had a refill service, they would just stick on a new circuit patch on the cartridge, and it would work fine. Is there such a simple solution possible?
Please advise. Thanks.
