Hi all,
I have an ERROR message on my printer:
'The indicated Cartridges (black) are not communicating correctly with the printer'.
I have taken all the usual steps removed the black cartridge and cleaned, turned off the printer etc. ..any other ideas?
Many thanks for your help

Hi @Dedlock_7134,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the cartridge communication issue on your HP ENVY Photo 7134:
Check the Cartridge Contacts:
- Ensure the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge are clean. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the contacts.
Inspect the Cartridge and Printer for Damage:
- Check the cartridge for any visible damage. Also, inspect the inside of the printer where the cartridge sits for any debris or damage.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Reinsert the Cartridge:
- Sometimes, reinserting the cartridge multiple times can help establish a better connection.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check HP's support website for any available updates for your printer model.
Try a Different Cartridge:
- If possible, try using a different black cartridge to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.
Clean the Printhead:
- If your printer has a removable printhead, try cleaning it. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to remove and clean the printhead.
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure the cartridge you are using is compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, using non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause communication issues.

Thank you very much for replying 🙂
HP forgot to send my replacement BLACK cartridge so I hope this will fix the issue when I replace it.
Otherwise, I will look at 'Firmware' although I'm not entirely sure how to do this but will look up.
Thanks again for all your suggestions x
