HP PageWide Pro 477dw Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer: HP Pagewide 477DW (out of warranty)

Problem: cartridge not communicating properly error

Printer #1:

Original 477DW (Printer#1) had been purchased in March 2017 and used.  In March 2017 I purchased 4 new heavy duty cartridges to use when the setup cartridges ran out.   Eventually the setup cartridges did run out and were replaced with the HP heavy duty cartridges (973X).  In 2019 Printer#1 then broke and HP replaced under warranty.  When printer#1 was returned to HP I removed the heavy duty cartridges and put the old setup cartridges back in (I was not going to return my expensive practically new cartridges).

Printer #2:

The replacement printer (printer #2) came with its own setup cartridges which I have been using.   The M cartridge has just run out (yes the setup cartridge lasted that long, I do not print high volume) and the printer wanted the M cartridge replaced before use, so I put in the virtually new heavy duty cartridge (973X) that I had purchased for and briefly used in printer#1 before it broke.   Printer#2 says that the 973X M cartridge is not communicating properly and will not print.

Am I correct in guessing that HP have somehow locked the HP 937X to my old, broken printer which they then replaced, and that this is now locking me out of using these expensive cartridges on the under warranty replacement printer?   Surely this cannot be right?

Does anyone have any solutions as to how to get the cartridge communicating properly or how to reset the 'lock' so it can be used?  I spent

Update:

I tried removing the 973X cartridge and removing the power lead.  I left the printer unplugged for 10 minutes and then put the power lead back in.    I then loaded the 973X from my previous 2017 printer and pressed the 'power on' button.   The printer then booted and said 'genuine HP cartridge installed', so that's good news.

However we then ran into a new problem which is:

"Older Generation Cartridge

The indicated cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer.  Etc"

So how do I go about getting this resolved as itg seems patently unfair to have HP replace my broken 477DW under warranty and then give me a replacement printer in which my expensive 973X cartridges do not work!

Anyo0ne from HP want to help and offer to replace the FOUR virtually new 973X cartridges I have that are apparently now useless?  It's a massive waste of money and something that makes one inclined not by Epson again!
