Hello,
I am having an issue with my HP printer: it won’t print when I send a document. In the HP Smart app, I see a message saying “cartridge or account issue.” I’m not sure what’s causing the error. I have checked that the cartridges are properly installed, but the problem persists.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @Elpepe, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "cartridge or account issue" message on your HP DeskJet 2823e likely indicates one of the following problems:
HP Instant Ink Subscription Issue
- If you are enrolled in HP Instant Ink, ensure that your subscription is active.
- Log in to your HP Instant Ink account and check if there are any billing or account-related issues.
- If your Instant Ink cartridges are deactivated, you may need to replace them with standard HP cartridges.
Cartridge Recognition Issue
- Remove both cartridges and clean the electrical contacts using a dry lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert them and make sure they click firmly into place.
- Restart your printer and check if the message disappears.
Firmware and Software Update
- Open HP Smart and check for any available printer firmware updates.
- Also, ensure your HP Smart app and printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from HP website.
Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer while it's turned on.
- Wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.
- Restart your computer and try printing again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
