HP ENVY Inspire 7221e All-in-One Printer

A message comes up on my printer saying "indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with printer" when i try to print. The correct black cartridge is in there. It is a HP cartridge. It is not damaged. I have reset the printer and checked for a firmware update. Any ideas?

@Annoyed95,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Remove both cartridges from the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  • Wait until the printer prompts you to insert the cartridges, then reinsert them one by one.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

We cancelled our subscription and the cartridges we are using are official hp 804 cartridges bought from a large commercial supplier. The cartridges are in date and shouldnt have any issues.

But we are still unable to use the printer.

We arent using the account and are using the correct cartridges. We shouldnt have any issues using the printer.

It sounds like you've covered the basics with the cartridges and subscription. Have you had a chance to try the troubleshooting steps that were shared earlier? Also, did you refer to the guide that was provided? Let me know if you need any further help.

Hi. I've tried all of the above suggestions. As  I said in my last reply, our printer will not allow us to use it because we cancelled our instantInk subscription. We are still buying the correct HP Original ink cartridges but because we cancelled our instantink subscription, our printer no longer works. Please fix this. Or we will just take our printer back for a refund.
