Hi @baggriff70,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The message “The indicated cartridge is not communicating correctly with the printer” means the printer is having trouble reading the information from the cartridge. HP has a specific troubleshooting section for this error.

On the HP support page you shared, select “Cartridge not communicating correctly with printer” and then select the cartridge type that applies to your printer.

If your printer uses the cartridges covered under the Type 1 section, follow these steps in order:

1. Clean the cartridge and printhead electrical contacts

  1. Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door or lid.
  2. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
  3. Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message.
  4. Using a lint-free cloth, wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge.
  5. Place the cartridge to the side with the contact facing upward.
  6. Wipe the corresponding electrical contact inside the printhead with a lint-free cloth.
  7. Reinsert the cartridge into its color-coded slot and press down on it until it snaps into place.
  8. Repeat these steps for any other cartridge indicated in the error message.
  9. Close the cartridge access door or lid.

2. Reset the printer

If the error remains:

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer. If it does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer.

3. Replace the indicated cartridge

If the cartridge still does not communicate with the printer, HP recommends replacing the problem cartridge with a new compatible cartridge. HP recommends using genuine HP cartridges when troubleshooting cartridge recognition and communication errors.

If the error continues after replacing the cartridge, the printer may require service.

If you tell me your exact HP printer model and the cartridge number shown on the cartridge, I can help identify which cartridge type and HP procedure applies to your printer.
