Cannot get my HP Envy printer to print after replacing cartridges. I’m on the Instant Ink programme and have replaced cartridges as suggested. Have a flashing E code on printer plus a flashing orange light on cartridge door opening. Please advise, I have tried switching everything off & restarting again but this did not make any difference

Hi @JL623,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy printer is not working after replacing the cartridges and is showing a flashing "E" code along with a flashing orange light on the cartridge door, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Correct Cartridge Placement: Ensure that the new cartridges are correctly installed. Remove and reseat them to make sure they are properly clicked into place.
- Check for Protective Tape: Make sure all protective tape or plastic coverings have been removed from the new cartridges.
2. Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Clean Electrical Contacts: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. This can help resolve any connectivity issues.
3. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Instant Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the cartridges are compatible with your HP Envy printer model and are part of the Instant Ink program. The cartridges should have the Instant Ink logo if they are part of the program.
4. Check for Error Codes
- Error Code "E": The "E" code often indicates an error. Look for any additional error messages or codes on the printer's display or through the HP Smart app. These can provide more specific information about the issue.
5. Reset the Printer
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the internal components and clear error messages.
6. Check the Cartridge Door
- Ensure Proper Closure: Make sure the cartridge door is properly closed. The printer may not function correctly if the door is not fully shut.
- Inspect for Obstructions: Check if there are any obstructions or debris around the cartridge door area that might prevent it from closing properly.
7. Update Printer Firmware
- Firmware Update: Check for any available firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve issues with cartridge recognition or printer errors.
Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- HP Diagnostic Tool: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, available on the HP website. This tool can help diagnose and fix common printer issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
