Hi @Lesliane,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It looks like your printer is being a bit picky with its black ink no worries, we’ll whip it back into shape! Try these steps to get it working:
Basic Checks:
Make sure you're using a genuine HP ink cartridge (Non-HP cartridges or refills might cause recognition issues).
Double-check that the protective plastic tape on the cartridge has been completely removed.
Reseat the Cartridge
- Remove the black cartridge.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 2 minutes.
- Clean the chip & contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly and restart the printer.
Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer while it’s powered on.
- Wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.
- Turn it on and check if the cartridge is recognized.
Check for Firmware Updates
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer - If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts (If Needed)
- Turn off the printer.
- Open the ink cartridge door and gently wipe the gold contacts inside the printer with a dry cloth.
- Let it dry, then reinstall the cartridge and power on the printer.
Run a Diagnostic Report
- From the printer’s touchscreen:
Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report - If the black ink section is missing, your printhead may need cleaning or replacing.
If none of these steps work, let me know. We’ll either tame this ink beast or consider a printhead replacement. Hope this helps! 🏯⚔️
