I have an HP ENVY Photo 7155 all-in-one printer. I just changed the tri-color ink cartridge using an HP 64. The black cartridge is an HP 64 XL. I keep getting an error code that my cartridge is not communicating with my printer. Do both cartridges have to be either 64 or 64 XL, the same? I have unplugged the printer and cleaned the ink cartridges. Why can I not print?

Hi @LD6179 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are experiencing could be due to a few different reasons, and the cartridge types (regular or XL) typically shouldn't be causing this problem.
Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure the cartridges are properly installed. Remove them, and then reseat them firmly into their respective slots.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer carriage. Make sure they are completely dry before reinserting.
- Reset Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This process can sometimes reset the printer and resolve communication errors.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs and improve printer performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer model. HP ENVY Photo 7155 typically uses HP 64 or HP 64XL cartridges, but it's essential to verify compatibility.
- Try a Different Cartridge: If you have another cartridge available, try installing it to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself or the printer.
