HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer

I have bought a complete set of new, original HP364 cartridges. I keep on getting the message that one or more cartridges cannot be recognized. Primarily the black. Actually, I have two new black cartridges - neither of these is recognized. I cannot (or do not know how to) reset my printer - Photosmart 5520. Meanwhile, I have bought a new printer with other cartridges, but is my problem with the old on not possible to solve, so that I have thrown out a lot of money on cartridges, I am not able to use?

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve cartridges not being recognized in your HP Photosmart 5520 printer.  See the section for "Type 3" cartridges.

One other thing to check - make sure you have a black cartridge and not a photo black.  The 364 black cartridge has a pentagon on the cartridge, the Photo cartridge has a bow tie on the cartridge:

Have been through all that without any luck and my black cartridges (have two and tried both) are not photo cartridges. The only possibility for resetting my printer is to unpluck the power cord which does not seem to help. But thanks for your kind reply.

It says that one ore more cartridges are damaged or missing and that I should replacement it which I have tried with two brand new and the old one. It shows the icon of the black colour.

In the troubleshooting steps in the document here look at section 3.  I assume you have cleaned the electrical contacts in the printer and on the cartridge, but I would suggest going one step further.  I would focus on the electrical contacts in the printhead.  Remove all the cartridges and set them out of the way.  With the printer open unplug the printer.  For the next steps, you will need a flashlight and perhaps a small mirror.  Shine the light on the printhead and look closely at the electrical contacts for the black cartridge.  Compare this to the contacts for the yellow cartridge and the other cartridges.  If there are any debris or ink on the black contacts clean the contacts.  Also look for any damage.  Post back here with any details.  Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and then reinstall the cartridges.

Got the printer to accept the cartridges but it would not print black, cyan or yellow despite new cartridges installed. Have dumped it all. Thanks for your time.
