HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

My HP printer (OfficeJet pro 8610) has been popping up cartridge problems after installing generic ink and I noticed and read that the current firmware version has dynamic security, which doesn't allow generic ink to work. So, I then deiced to buy HP genuine ink, and the problem still occurred after doing semi resets and firmware resets, and I also cleaned the printheads manually and dried it for more than 3 hours. I installed it back in, and whenever I install the new ink each individual time it recongizes it and no errors at all until i try to do a print report and it pops up the cartridge problem again. At this point i don't know what to do can you please help me?

Hi @Hamouto

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with an ongoing cartridge error with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer, even after performing some troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional steps you can try to fix the issue:

1. Check for Genuine HP Cartridges

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you installed are genuine HP cartridges. Some non-HP or refilled cartridges may cause compatibility issues or errors, even if they appear to be installed correctly.

2. Clean the Ink Cartridges and Contacts

  • Since you've already cleaned the printheads, it’s worth ensuring the cartridge contacts are also cleaned properly:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Remove the ink cartridges carefully.
    3. Use a lint-free cloth or a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the metal contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer. Be very careful not to touch the ink nozzles.
    4. Once everything is dry, reinstall the cartridges and plug the printer back in.

3. Reset the Printer Again (Hard Reset)

  • If the semi-reset didn’t resolve the issue, you can try a hard reset on the printer:
    1. Turn the printer off.
    2. Unplug the printer’s power cable from both the printer and the power outlet.
    3. Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
    4. Plug the printer back into the power source, then turn it on again.
    5. Reinstall the cartridges and see if the error persists.

4. Check Ink Cartridge Chips

  • HP cartridges have small chips that allow the printer to detect the ink level and verify the cartridge. If the chip on the cartridge is damaged or dirty, it might trigger a cartridge error. Try gently wiping the chip with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or residue.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Firmware updates can sometimes fix issues related to ink cartridges. You can check for firmware updates:
    1. Go to the HP website and search for your printer model (OfficeJet Pro 8610).
    2. Download the latest firmware update for your printer and follow the installation instructions.

I already tried everything this was helpful it still pops up cartridge problem and this is probably because of the dynamic security built into the firmware (latest).

Hi @Hamouto,

We always recommend to use Hp ink cartrdiges. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

I hope this helps.
