HP ENVY 6055 All-In-One Printer

The guide shows accessing the cartridges from the side tab. When I do so, it feels and sounds like I am breaking something. I have searched for a definitive description of how to access the cartridges. I assume I keep prying up, though it feels like and sounds like I am breaking the printer housing.

Hi @ProudOpa,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 6055 All-In-One Printer. It should not require excessive force, and it definitely shouldn’t feel like you’re breaking anything.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to properly access and replace the ink cartridges:

Steps to Change Ink Cartridges on the HP ENVY 6055

Power On the Printer: Make sure your printer is turned on. It should be idle and not printing.

Open the Front Door:

  • Gently open the front door of the printer. This is usually a large door on the front of the printer that folds down.

Access the Ink Cartridge Area:

  • Once the front door is open, the ink cartridge access area is behind this door. Look for the tab or latch on the right side that you can lift.
  • Lift this latch or tab to open the ink cartridge access door. You should hear a soft click, but it should not be a loud cracking noise.

Wait for the Carriage to Move:

  • After opening the ink cartridge access door, the ink carriage should automatically move to the center for easy access. Do not try to force it; wait for it to stop moving.

Remove the Old Cartridges:

  • To remove an old cartridge, gently press down on it to release it from its slot. It should pop out easily without any need to pry or pull forcefully.

Insert the New Cartridges:

  • Take the new ink cartridge out of its packaging, being careful not to touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.
  • Slide the new cartridge into the empty slot, pushing it in until it clicks into place.

Close the Ink Cartridge Access Door:

  • Once you have replaced the cartridges, close the ink cartridge access door, making sure it clicks into place securely.

Close the Front Door:

  • Finally, close the front door of the printer.

Don’t Force the Access Door: If it feels like you are applying too much pressure or if it sounds like you’re breaking something, stop and check that you are opening the correct door. The ink cartridge access door should open easily without force.

Use Both Hands: When opening the ink cartridge access door, using both hands can help distribute the pressure more evenly, reducing the risk of feeling like you are damaging the printer.

Check the Printer Manual: If you are still unsure, refer to the printer’s user manual. The manual should have clear diagrams and instructions on accessing the ink cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
