Hello,
I have a Photosmart 5520 all-in-one printer. When we came to move the printer we found dried ink deposits on the table surface (varnished oak). Opening the printer there was lots of ink below the resting position for the cartridges. I have cleaned up (as far as I can) the ink in the printer. Is there a suitable solvent to dissolve the dried ink sitting on the table?

Hi @DaveC_hh,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Let's try to clean the ink cartridges manually and then try Printing.
1. Gather the following materials:
* Dry foam-rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that does not come apart or leave fibers (coffee filters work well)
* Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the cartridges)
CAUTION: Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the cartridge contacts. These can damage the cartridge or the printer.
2. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
3. Open the cartridge access door.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
5. Remove the ink cartridges.
6. Lightly moisten a foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it.
7. Clean only the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge, and then allow the cartridge to dry for about 10 minutes.
8. Reinsert the cartridge by sliding it at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and then gently pushing up on the cartridge until it snaps into place.
9. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer. Try printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

The ink has spilled out of the printer (presumably when it was on a cleaning cycle) and dried on the wooden table that the printer sits on. The query was about getting the dried ink off the table. I had cleaned up inside the printer before trying to clean the table.
Thanks for any help on the matter.

Hi @DaveC_hh,
Thank you for your response.
For Porous Surfaces (like wood):
Blotting: If the ink is still wet, blot it with a paper towel. Do not rub, as this can spread the ink further into the wood.
Mild Soap Solution: Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with water and gently rub the stain with a soft cloth. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately.
Rubbing Alcohol or Mineral Spirits: If the stain persists, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits on a cloth and gently rub the stain. Test on an inconspicuous area first.
Toothpaste: Non-gel toothpaste or a mixture of baking soda and toothpaste can be gently rubbed on the stain with a soft cloth. Wipe off with a damp cloth and dry.
Refinishing: For deep stains on wood, the area may need to be lightly sanded and refinished, which is a more involved process.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
