Help! I have followed the instructions on the HP Smart App (using both a desktop and my mobile phone) and at the point where it shows the printer, it shows "Unavailable" and the troubleshooting help has now been exhausted. So, I have tried turning the printer off and back on, and running the whole App again. Same result. The printer is live and connected to my Wi-Fi router and is working in every way except this.

There are no drivers for windows 7 listed for this printer. However, windows 8 is listed and I think that means 7 should work with 8 or maybe even 10. Just guessing but if your printer is online it should see the printer even if it cannot control it.
Please get a network report using the front panel as described on page 7 of the users manual and make a note of the IP4 address.
Contact the printer using a browser: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc. If the contact fails then the printer is not on the network.
For a smartphone to contact the printer for setup, it must be paired using bluetooth although this is not spelled out exactly on page 26.
Is HP Smart on your smartphone? See page 26 for setup. Lemme know what happens else ...

Thanks for trying. When I try to contact the printer via Edge on my PC I get -
Hmmm… can't reach this page
192.168.223.1 took too long to respond
Try:
- Search the web for 192 168 223 1
- Checking the connection
- Checking the proxy and the firewall
- Running Windows Network Diagnostics

Yes, HP Smart is on my Samsung A40. Same result. Also tried Chrome on my Chromebook. Same result: "Took to long to respond".
The Network config page I printed says Status: offline. But Wi-Fi Status is: On. The router is connected and there is no issue with any other device using it for internet access. The printer prints from the PC in the usual way via Wi-fi.
I confess to being not very analytical, and somewhat impatient, but this is getting me down!

If network off-line then printer must be set for Wi-Fi direct.
Reset the printer and try connecting to the router using the WPS method on page 27
Your network printout should show a MAC address such as (for example)
Wired HW Address: | 3c:4a:92:40:cb:07 |
Wireless HW Address: | 5c:ac:4c:13:0d:c8 |
Log into your router and look for those MAC addresses in the WLAN or wireless device list. Only one of them should show up.
If the router is smart enough it will have the name of the printer in addition to the MAC address.
Look for the IP4 or IP6 address and a new network report should show it.
Post back if a problem.

If your printer or HP computer is under warranty you can contact hp support and schedule the rep to access your computer remotely and set up the printer. Depending on your location and the support policy this may not be possible but you can try.

:Thanks for that suggestion. When I try to contact the router with the MAC address I just get "File not Found".
The MAC address is needed only to see if the router is actually connected to the printer. For example, after logging into my Arris modem/router I see the following after selecting "Device List"
I then scroll down and look for my printer's MAC address that starts with "3c" as the network report shows that.
Sure enough, it is known to the router. if it is not found then the router has no knowledge of the printer and you are unlikely to be able to use it..
If the MAC address of your printer is not in the router then try the WPS connection as described on page 4. If the MAC address is in the router then use the IP4 address to contact the printer. For me it would be http://192.168.1.120 as shown above.
or use the IP6 address to contact. You would do this from Edge, Chrome or Firefox.
Log into the modem as follows:
I have an Arris modem, yours may be different. This tutorial is helpful. The username might be "admin" and the password should be printed somewhere on the modem. For many modems the device list can be displayed with no need to log in with a password. The password is needed only when making a change.
Try clicking on this to log into the modem http://192.168.0.1 if that does not work then you need to us the application ipconfig to find the address of the modem.

Hi again, thanks for sticking with it! I never did fathom the PIN or get connection to my router IP4 or IP6. I shut everything down for an hour, reblooted, re-downloaded hp smart, got hp easy start, followed that, used a USB cable ib due course, waited for that to work through, then waited some more while other processes took place, and - eventually - after maybe 20 minutes, everything was installed, extracted etc. and I can now print and scan.
Three days on and off doing all this. My Canon Pixma took 20 minutes start to finish. Not a great fan of HP for this reason.

I am glad you got it working. I have had worse problem configuring Wi-Fi cameras.
You mentioned a Canon. Does it have a tray that allows direct printing to a CD or DVD?

It's a TS3355, as far as I can tell it only prints rectangular paper sheets, which is all we use it for. No doubt they have other more expensive models that do more (mine cost about £35).
Good hunting, and thanks again for your efforts!
