Hi. My printer has suddenly started ghosting the magenta image. It is off by about 1mm. I have tried cleaning, recalibrating, and resetting defaults, all with no change. Any idea what's going on here?

Hi @PRP4768,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Ghosting in printing, where an image is offset or repeated, can be caused by various factors. In your case, since the magenta image is ghosting and you've already tried cleaning, recalibrating, and resetting defaults, there are a few more things you can check.
Toner Cartridge:
- Make sure that the magenta toner cartridge is properly seated and securely in place.
- Check the toner cartridge for any damage. If the cartridge is damaged or leaking, it may cause ghosting.
Transfer Belt:
- The transfer belt is responsible for transferring the image onto the paper. Check if the transfer belt is clean and not damaged.
- Replace the transfer belt if it's worn or damaged.
Fuser Unit:
- The fuser unit fuses the toner onto the paper. Check if the fuser unit is clean and not causing any issues.
- If the fuser unit is damaged, it may need replacement.
Paper Quality:
- Ensure that you are using the correct type and quality of paper recommended for your printer.
- Poor quality or damaged paper can contribute to ghosting issues.
Print Driver and Settings:
- Update your printer driver to the latest version.
- Check the print settings to ensure they match the paper type and quality.
Power Cycle:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor issues.
If after checking all these aspects the problem persists, it may be a hardware issue within the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
