Firmware Version | LWP1CN2446AR |
Total Page Count | 242 |
I've printed 242 pages and now I get this error message:
Color Printhead: Older Generation Printhead. This Printhead is an older generation Printhead that does not work in your printer. It can still be used with some older printer models.
I've bought this printer last autumn ( September or so) to use it for my boy for school. And after printing 242 pages .... stopped working. The tanks are full ....
I don't know what to do

Hi @NeThUs
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 580 printer is experiencing a compatibility issue with the color printhead.
The error message indicates that the printhead is from an older generation and is not compatible with your printer model. Here’s how you can address this issue:
Step 1: Verify Printhead Compatibility
- Check the part number on the color printhead and ensure it matches the compatible printhead for your HP Smart Tank 580. You can find the correct part numbers in the HP Support guide.
- If the printhead is not compatible, you’ll need to purchase a replacement printhead designed for your printer model.
Step 2: Replace the Printhead
- Open the printer’s front door and locate the printhead carriage.
- Release the blue latch and remove the old printhead.
- Install the new printhead by sliding it into the designated slot and securing it with the latch.
- Close the printhead cover and front door. Align the printheads using the printer’s scanner if prompted.
For detailed instructions, you can refer to this video tutorial or HP Support page.
Step 3: Update Firmware
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
- Install the firmware update to ensure compatibility with the new printhead.
Step 4: Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 2–3 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on to reset the system.
