HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Color LaserJet Pro M255dw... it was working fine then all of a sudden stopped printing color (except yellow) and the black was very light. I have it on best quality. I bit the bullet and bought 4 new toner cartridges and it is STILL only printing yellow and the black is very light.

I am at a loss... I have done all of the diagnostics and everything the virtual assistant said to do.

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks, Jan

Hi @JanMarie711,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it must be to replace all toner cartridges and still experience poor print quality on your HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw, especially with only yellow printing correctly and black appearing very light.

Recommended Steps

  1. Run the HP Print Quality Diagnostic Page
    • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.
    • This will help identify which colors are printing and which are not.

  2. Check Toner Levels and Cartridge Installation
    • From the printer’s home screen, tap Supplies to view toner levels.
    • Ensure each cartridge is seated properly and that the protective seals are fully removed.

  3. Clean the Imaging Drum and Laser Scanner
  4. Update Firmware
  5. Restore Factory Defaults
    • On the printer: Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
    • This can clear any corrupted settings affecting print output.

  6. Try a Different Print Source
    • Print a test page from the printer itself (not from your PC) to rule out software issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I did everything you said, I downloaded 2 recommended firmware updates, then the printer screen said they were invalid. It is still only printing light yellow and light black. But thank you for trying.
