Hi @Fra49

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation—when color suddenly stops working, especially after doing everything right, it’s understandably frustrating.

If your HP Envy 5055 isn’t printing in color despite following all instructions, the issue may stem from cartridge configuration, print settings, or blocked nozzles.

Let’s walk through a full recovery to restore color output.

Step-by-step recovery for missing color output

Check cartridge status

  • Open the printer and confirm that the tri-color cartridge is installed correctly.
  • Make sure the protective tape was removed from the cartridge.
  • In the HP App, go to Printer Settings > Supplies Status and confirm ink levels.

Run print quality diagnostics

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • Review the output—if color blocks are missing or streaked, proceed to cleaning.

Clean the printhead

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Run Level 1 cleaning, then test.
  • If color still doesn’t print, run Level 2 cleaning.
  • Avoid repeating Level 2 more than twice to prevent ink waste.

Check print settings

  • When printing, go to Print Preferences > Paper/Quality tab.
  • Ensure Color is selected (not grayscale or black-only).
  • Set Paper Type to Plain Paper and Print Quality to Normal or Best.

Update firmware

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Try a test page from another device

  • Print a color test page from a different PC or mobile device.
  • This helps rule out software or driver issues on your main system.

Let me know if the color blocks are missing from the diagnostic page or if you’ve recently replaced the cartridge—I’ll guide you through deeper recovery steps.
