Hi @jdv381,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Vertical lines with different shades in color prints can be indicative of several underlying issues with your printer. Here are some steps to consider for troubleshooting and resolving this problem:

Check Paper Type: Ensure you are using the recommended paper type. Using incorrect or incompatible paper can lead to quality issues.

Adjust Print Quality Settings:

  • If you have set the Print Quality slider to 'Speed', try adjusting it to 'Quality'.
  • You can also select custom print settings and increase the number of passes for improved quality.

Use Thicker Paper:

  • Sometimes, using thicker paper can help alleviate issues with vertical banding. Opt for papers like HP Heavyweight Coated Paper or HP Super Heavyweight Paper if these are available.

Perform Printer Maintenance:

  • Although you mentioned cleaning the printhead, it's also important to run any available maintenance utilities provided by your printer, which might include alignment and calibration.

Inspect Ink Cartridges and Printheads:

  • Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed and that there is no blockages or damage that could affect print quality.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Sometimes, paper dust or fibers can accumulate in the printer path, affecting the print. Carefully clean the interior of the printer if needed.

Perform Color Calibration:

  • Make sure the printer is color-calibrated. If it is obsolete or recommended, performing a color calibration might help in correcting the issue.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
