Hi @wfrazier,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've changed the toner in your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw and are experiencing poor color printing, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Toner Installation:

  • Ensure that you have correctly installed the new toner cartridges. Make sure they are securely seated in their respective slots.

Toner Levels:

  • Check the toner levels for each color to make sure they are not too low. Low toner levels can affect print quality.

Cleaning Process:

  • Run the printer's cleaning process to remove any residual toner or debris that may be affecting print quality. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to initiate the cleaning process.

Calibration:

  • Perform a color calibration on the printer. This helps ensure that the colors are accurately reproduced. You can usually find this option in the printer settings or maintenance menu.

Print Quality Settings:

  • Check the print quality settings in your printer's software. Adjust the settings to a higher quality if necessary.

Update Firmware/Drivers:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.

Paper Quality:

  • Make sure you are using the correct type and quality of paper for color printing. Using the wrong paper may result in poor print quality.

Check for Contamination:

  • Inspect the printer's internal components for any contamination, such as dust or toner particles. Carefully clean any contaminated areas according to the printer's manual.

Replace Defective Cartridge:

  • If the problem persists, it's possible that the new toner cartridge is defective. Try replacing it with another new cartridge and see if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
