Hi @GIGI447,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 900 series printer is having trouble printing specific colors, even after changing the cartridges and cleaning the print heads, here are some additional steps you can take to address the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Installation:
- Correct Placement: Ensure that both the new red and black cartridges are correctly installed. They should click into place securely.
- Protective Tape: Confirm that any protective tape or plastic covering has been removed from the cartridges.
2. Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Status:
- HP Software: Use the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer to check the ink levels and status of the cartridges. Sometimes, cartridges might be recognized as empty or faulty despite being new.
3. Print Head Alignment:
- Automatic Alignment: Run the print head alignment function from the printer’s control panel or via the HP Smart app. This process ensures that the print heads are correctly aligned, which can improve print quality and color accuracy.
4. Perform a Deep Cleaning:
- Printer Software: Use the deep cleaning option available in your printer’s software or HP Smart app. This is more thorough than the standard cleaning cycle and can help clear any stubborn blockages.
- Manual Cleaning: If the software cleaning doesn’t work, manually clean the print head. Consult your printer’s manual for specific instructions on how to do this. Usually, it involves removing the print head and gently wiping it with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
5. Check for Print Head Issues:
- Print Head Inspection: Remove the print head and inspect it for any visible issues, such as clogs or damage. Sometimes, print heads can become clogged with dried ink, which might require more intensive cleaning or replacement.
- Nozzles and Contacts: Ensure the nozzles on the print head and the contacts where it connects to the printer are clean and free from ink or debris.
6. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Driver Update: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. Download and install the latest drivers from the HP support website.
- Reinstallation: Uninstall and then reinstall the printer drivers and software to ensure that everything is correctly configured.
7. Check Printer Settings:
- Print Settings: Make sure that your print settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, settings like "Print in Grayscale" or incorrect paper type settings can affect color printing.
8. Perform a Printer Reset:
- Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, you might consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to your printer’s manual or HP’s support website for instructions on how to reset your model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
