Colors consistently darker especially green shades. Have cleaned heads, replaced cartridges and adjusted light/dark setting but problem persists. My company logo is a medium green and it comes out almost black.

Hi @Neil1225,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue where colors print too dark (especially green tones) on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer – N911a, despite cleaning heads, replacing cartridges, and adjusting light/dark settings.

Accurate HP Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Use HP Diagnostic Print Quality Tools

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Tools.
  2. Select Print Quality Report.
  3. Examine the test patterns for missing colors, misalignment, or color shifts.
    • If green or other colors look incorrect or overly dark, proceed below.

Step 2: Check Paper Type and Quality Settings

  1. On your Windows 11 PC, open the document you're printing.
  2. Select File > Print, then click Printer Properties or Preferences.
  3. Under the Paper/Quality or Media tab:
    • Ensure the paper type matches what you're using (e.g., Plain, Photo, Brochure).
    • If you're using photo or glossy paper, choose the correct media to avoid oversaturation.
  4. In the Color or Advanced tab:
    • Check that Color Printing is selected (not grayscale).
    • Click Advanced > adjust Color Management settings as needed.

Step 3: Use ColorSmart/sRGB Instead of Printer Color Management

  1. In the Printer Properties > Color Management section, select:
    • sRGB (Standard RGB)
    • Or manually adjust gamma/contrast and disable HP color enhancements.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall HP Driver

  1. Visit: https://support.hp.com/drivers
  2. Enter your printer model: OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911a
  3. Download the Full Feature Software and Driver for Windows 11.
  4. Uninstall the current driver:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > HP Software, and uninstall
  5. Restart your PC, then install the latest driver.

Step 5: Calibrate Color and Align Printhead

  1. On the printer:
    • Go to Setup > Tools > Align Printer
    • Then run Color Calibration or Printhead Cleaning again
  2. Reprint the document to verify improvement
